Andreas Vesalius 2014-2015 Listen here: second hour of "Interne Keuken, Saturday, 24 October1/31/2016 Post Mortem Andreae Vesallii (1514-1564) A.Vesalius - September 2015 (3) Maurits Biesbrouck, Theodoor Goddeeris, Omer Steeno The letter Hubertus Languetus, a French diplomat, wrote on January 1, 1565, is the start of the inquisition-myth that still surrounds Vesalius's departure from Spain today: two dozen of lines that start with: "rumour has it ...", as if the gossiping diplomat doesn't believe the story himself. Four letters discovered by the Spanish paediatrician J.B. Fernandez refute the inquisition-hoax even more efficiently. A first letter is a laissez-passer by V's employer, Philip II; in the fourth message the Custodian of the Holy Places thanks AV, pious pilgrim and carrier of the letter, for bringing to Jerusalem the kings' royal gift. The letter reached its destiny and so exposes the shipwreck-myth. As Reinerus Solenander already wrote in May 1566: AV died of an unfortunate return voyage and of a general fatigue. Thank you, Maurits Biesbrouck, Theodoor Goddeeris and Omer Steeno, for your continuous and most valuable research. Vesalius is very present in the September issue (27/3) of the journal of alumni of the Faculty of Medicine of KU Leuven, Belgium.
In a first article Omer Steeno thanks his colleague em.prof.dr. Luc Missotten for his dedication to the Vesalius commemorations 2014-2015 in Louvain. Steeno also highlights previous events, mainly the 1964-1965 celebration with the contribution of Nicolas Ant. Barbianis in Zakynthos, and also mentions our conference. The second article is titled "Post Mortem" Andreae Vesalli (1514-1564). Maurits Biesbrouck, Theodoor Goddeeris and Omer Steeno summarise their research about Vesalius's last voyage and the circumstances of his death. more photos on the fabrica Vitae website Madrid, at the Residence of the Embassy of Belgium, under the auspices of Ambassador Pierre Labouverie and initiated by Prof. José Maria Urkia Etxabe of the Universidad del Pais Vasco, the only "Acto Homenaje Vesalio" in Spain in 2014/15: More news on MedInArt website On the occasion of 500th birthday since the birth of Andreas Vesalius, inventor of modern anatomy, the Embassy of Belgium, in cooperation with the Medical University of Astana, will organize a conference with participation of Belgian and Kazakh specialists in sphere of medicine, history and modern technologies. among the speakers Theo Dirix and Prof Vivian Nutten |
